I confess, when I read Exodus Chapters 26 through 30, I speed-read through the details of building the Ark, the Tabernacle, and the Priests’ clothing—details, details, details. The required type of wood, acacia, is known for its durability and resilience. God instructed where to use gold, representing wealth, purity, and Divine glory. Bronze, able to withstand extreme heat and pressure, indicated power and judgment. Silver meant redemption, purification, and obedience. The Israelites were told where to use purple, red, or gold thread. Details!

Today, my approach to these passages was met with the Holy Spirit urging me to slow down. The Word needed to be savored. I began to visualize the requirements of these wandering people to fulfill His instructions. They cut trees, melted metals, and spun thread. Not only did they slow down, but they halted their journey because no detail could be missed. Respecting God’s instructions was important to them, His people.

I, too, am one of His people. It was my turn to read carefully, listening for His voice. He pressed me to understand that my best should be offered to God. Resources of time, money, and talent should be given. But mostly, He desires the best of my heart. How divided is my heart between Him and those I love?

Father, please forgive my rush to get through sections of Your Word. Lead me to an understanding of how You want my heart to shift. Create a heart that seeks You and Your desires above my own.

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen
